Monster Harvest is a pixel art indie game that mixes farming sim and monster collecting. I worked on it in the publisher QA team at Merge Games, testing it on a lot of different platforms ahead of release.

What I did

  • Kept long running save files going to test the farming, crafting and monster collecting loops over many in-game days.
  • Wrote test plans and guides that our internal testers and external partners both used.
  • Full compliance passes against every platform holder’s requirements, including next-gen consoles.
  • Sent regular feedback to Maple Powered Games on bugs and on how the game felt to play.

The tricky part with a farming sim is that a lot of the problems don’t show up for hours. Balance issues, money exploits and some bugs only appear dozens of hours into a save, so those long playthroughs had to be kept going alongside everything else, with release dates coming up fast.
