Company: Supermassive Games
Little Hope is the second game in The Dark Pictures Anthology: a new cast stuck in a haunted, abandoned town, with the same choice and consequence storytelling as Man of Medan. It came out on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
Having just shipped Man of Medan, I knew the tech and the tools, so this time the focus was on doing the testing better rather than learning it.
What I did
- Updated our test cases and Confluence guides using what we’d learned on Man of Medan, especially for the two player online co-op and five player Movie Night modes.
- Trained a new QA tester and got them up to speed on Supermassive’s games, tools and ways of working.
- Kept testing the branching story to make sure every choice led somewhere stable and made sense.
- Compliance testing for Sony and Microsoft.
- Helped QA leads plan each day’s testing so we covered functionality, performance, compliance and full playthroughs.
As on Man of Medan, I logged the most bugs on the embedded test team, through a mix of systematic and exploratory testing. We were also working with an external QA partner, so a lot of the job was keeping everyone pointed at the right parts of a very big story.
Tools
Jira, Excel for test cases and checklists, Confluence, Unreal Engine 4, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC and Supermassive’s own debug tools.
