Hyenas was a session based multiplayer PvPvE shooter. I was a QA Technician on the core team, which meant working with most departments and seeing a lot of the game while it was in active development. The game was eventually cancelled, but it was a big learning experience in testing a large online game.

What I did

  • Smoke tested every new build each day on all target platforms, so problems were spotted early.
  • Talked to the development leads each day about where the risks were, so we tested the right things first.
  • Wrote bug reports with clear repro steps, build details and video.
  • Reviewed existing bugs to keep their priorities accurate.
  • Organised and played in multiplayer sessions, and fed back on stability and how the core loop felt.

With a new IP and lots of connected systems that changed all the time, things moved fast. Talking to the designers and developers every day was the best way to know where to focus.

Tools

Jira, Confluence, Unreal Engine 5 and PC and console dev kits.
